Nicole Ari Parker has worked on film, television, and on stages. The actress is best known for her character Teri (the spirited lawyer) Joseph. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from childhood and received an award for the best Actress prize at the Maryland high school competition. Contractor was born in Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She was already exposed to a lot of travel and different cultures at a very early age. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family moved towards Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her youth and early adulthood. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. She was also a star academically. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school that taught not just dance but also theatre. At the age of 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. As she finished high school, she was offered a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Contractor was a student who'd completed her university degree was invited to audition during an open call for Pericles in the world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian critics praised her performance during 92 performances of the play. Contractor accepted the offer to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. There are only eight males and four females are admitted to a course of 20 weeks in the classical theatre. Contractor's participation in the next season's production was confirmed. She got the part in Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
